WHAT is a Christmas Market

Christmas Markets have been a tradition in many European countries for more than 700 years. These markets originated in Germany and Austria.  In fact, the German "Christkind(e)l(s)markt"  literally means "Christ child market". This year, the Diocese has decided to bring this tradition to Alexandria-Cornwall. Like a traditional European market, we will have seasonal items for sale, entertaiment, Nativity scenes as well as a host of other activities.

EXHIBITION & blessing of the crèches

The central focus of our Christmas Market will be dozens of crèches from all corners of our diocese and of the world. You are invited to make your crèche a part of this wonderful exhibit. Click here to find out how.

Bishop Marcel Damphousse will close the 2013 Agora Christmas Market with the blessing of the crèches beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 8th.

INSPIRING workshops

On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be several workshops to help you and your family make the most of the Advent and Christmas seasons.

FUN for children

There is something for everyone at the Christmas Market, including for children. They will have the chance to meet the real Santa Claus as well as help out in his workshop.
